3 Ways to Prevent Maskne

Maskne has obviously become so popular because wearing masks has become a part of our day-to-day lives and also because this new normal has also brought with it breakouts on the face of people who have never had acne their whole lives. In this post, we will look at 3 ways to prevent Maskne.

What is Maskne?

Maskne is acne or other skin irritation that results from wearing a mask. The other skin irritations can be Rosacea, Contact dermatitis, or Folliculitis.

If you have had any of the conditions in the past you are more prone to Maskne.

Why does Maskne happen?

The most popular reason for Maskne is clogged pores and this happens because oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells build up even more on your skin when you wear a mask.

Another way Maskne occurs is when your skin rubs on the Mask throughout the day leading to chafing and irritation from the friction.

The third way Maskne can happen is by reacting to the material or chemicals that make up the mask that one is wearing.

How to Prevent Maskne

It’s apparent that wearing a mask is not going to fade away real fast and we might as well come to terms with the fact that we need to find ways to prevent Maskne.

Here are 3 ways to prevent Maskne:

  1. Do frequent dermaplaning/nano needling treatments – Since one of the reasons for Maskne is clogged pores, simply doing these treatments will help discard dead skin cells and open up the pores for more skin nutrients to go through making your skin more hydrated and plump.
  2. Use fabric masks – Fabric masks do not have chemicals in them and are reusable. You are expected to wash them after every use to get rid of dirt.
  3. Remove your mask – It is recommended that you remove your mask for 15 minutes after every 4 hours so that you can give your skin a break.

Conclusion

While wearing a mask is very important in the time we are in, it definitely brings a new type of challenge but remember, prevention is always the best medicine and we would love for you not to have Maskne.

Try to always keep your skin hydrated which is the bottom-line. Do make sure you consult with your esthetician for frequent treatments that will have you revealing new skin as often as possible.
