Dear body hair,
if I had you removed for the 1000th time,
please get the hint.
Sugaring vs Waxing is a question you would have asked if you are someone who loves summer skin. While Waxing and sugaring are often grouped together, as popular hair removal methods that have a longer effect on the skin than shaving, there are peculiar differences between both methods of hair removal.
What is Sugaring?
Sugaring is a hair removal technique that uses an all-natural paste to pull off body hair. Sugaring looks like waxing. However, it is gentler on the skin and it consists of sugar, lemon juice, water, and glycerin.
It is a genuinely safe and organic alternative to conventional waxing. Sugaring is applied against hair growth and removed with hair growth.
What are the benefits of Sugaring?
- Not as painful as waxing, but one may feel a little pain depending on each individual’s threshold of handling pain
- It’s all-natural (This is great for people who may have allergies to certain ingredients or just prefer purely natural ingredients on their body)
- Sugaring more often helps the hairs on your body grow thinner and it makes your next session easier and less painful
- It is great for sensitive skin
- It is easier to wash the sugar off with water unlike waxing which requires a special cleanser
What are the side-effects of Sugaring?
- There’s always a potential for increased sensitivity following your appointment.
- Skin inflammation and infections are possible side effects when not carried out properly
What is Waxing?
Waxing is the removal of hair from the root by carefully pressing a sticky substance to cover the body hair, and then removing this covering while intentionally pulling out the hair from the follicle. It is applied with hair growth and removed against hair growth.
What are the benefits of Waxing?
- It effectively removes hair from the root
- It is a better option for thicker body hairs compared to sugaring
- It leaves the body clean and really smooth
- It is a fast and efficient method of hair removal
What are the side-effects of Waxing?
- It may cause redness.
- Wax has to be washed off with a special cleanser that could also potentially contain allergens unlike sugaring which requires ordinary water for cleaning.
- There’s always a potential for increased sensitivity following your appointment.
Sugaring and waxing might not be advisable for everyone, and there are several limitations to consider.
As seen above, it is important to note that, getting a wax close to or during your menstrual period may cause you to feel more pain than usual. This is because your hormones are probably more sensitive at the time.
It is generally advised that one should exfoliate for three days, after every sugaring session in order to prevent unwanted ingrown hairs.
Please make sure to see a professional every time you need to get a waxing or sugaring treatment. This is not just because of the benefits or side effect, but most especially because of your skin type and possible reactions that either might have on your skin.
Remember, your skin is your most important organ, as it will represent you for a very long time, and you should treat it with a lot of respect.
